THE POWER OF AFFIRMATIONS
AND VISUALIZATION
âWhen you do the core belief process, youâll discover that the right affirmations can have a deep and positive effect on you . . . they can change your life, in fact. Affirmations are the single most powerful tool we have for creating what we want in life, for they can literally change our negative core beliefs into positive ones.
âThereâs nothing difficult or esoteric about doing affirmations; itâs a natural process weâre doing all the time, sometimes consciously, more often unconsciously.
âThe word affirmation comes from the Latin word affirmare, which means to make firm. Affirmations literally âmake firmâ the reality we desire. . . . How can this be?â
He paused, for a long time, almost as if he expected one of us to answer his question. We just sat in silence, once again lulled into a sense of calm and quiet by the intense near whisper of his voice.
âWeâre naturally creative beings. . . . In the broadest, deepest sense, we have all created our present life situation. We create our own experience of reality, though most often we do it subconsciously. We create the life situations that we feel, in some way, we deserve. The core beliefs we accept about ourselves lead us subconsciously to create the life weâre living. . . .
âHow do we create something? How do we write a book or knit a sweater? How do we repair a leaky sink or fill a living room with furniture? First, we develop an intention to do something, that is, we affirm to ourselves weâre going to do it. âIâm going to write a book. . . . I think Iâll knit a sweater. . . . Iâve got to fix that leaky faucet. . . . We need some living room furniture. . . .â All these are affirmations, words that make firm your intention to do something.
âOnce the intention is firm, we summon the creative power of our mind and visualize the results. An affirmation always contains a visualization of some kind within it. We do this so often the process is usually automatic, subconscious.
âBoth our conscious, linear, verbal mind and our subconscious, intuitive, spontaneous mind have the power to visualize results. When visualization is done repeatedly, and when itâs supported by our mental and physical energy, we create exactly what weâre affirming and visualizing. . . .
âNow, visualizing doesnât necessarily mean literally seeing the final results in actual form in our mindâs eye, though this sometimes happens. Different people visualize in different ways. When you say, for example, âIâm going to the store for some milk and cookies,â this simple statement involves both an affirmation and a visualization: You âseeâ yourself going to the store, in some way â you imagine whatâs involved in going to the store â and you affirm that youâll do it by your statement, whether itâs spoken out loud or just a thought in your mind. Your affirmation and visualization direct you to move in a certain direction, and you create your desired reality â in this case, milk and cookies.
